Why Choose Polarized Lenses

If you aren’t sure whether polarized lenses will meet your needs or not, we’re here to help. Polarized lenses filter out extra light, making them effective at reducing lens glare. They’re ideal for people who are sensitive to light or play a lot of water sports during the summer months. Sunglasses with polarized lenses can also minimize eye strain and improve the quality of your vision while wearing them. Due to their special filtering, polarized lenses make objects look crisper and clearer, and details are easier to see.

UV Blocking and Polarization: What’s the Difference?

It’s important to note that polarization does not equal UV protection and vice versa. Each has their own purpose to serve. To be considered UV sunglasses, the lenses are required to block 75 to 90% of visible light and must offer UVA and UVB protection to block 99% of ultraviolet radiation. If you want to maximize eye protection, then it’s a good idea to opt for shades that are labeled as having both UV400 and polarized lenses.

Lens Tint

Most polarized lenses come with tinted shades which can be light or dark, depending on your use for them. Dark lenses are best for routine use and for people who spend a significant amount of time outdoors because they cut through the sun’s glare more easily. Conversely, light colors work well for moderate- and low-level lighting situations.

While you may be tempted to choose your favorite color, each tint has its pros and cons. Green lenses create an even color perception, brighten shadows, and offer good contrast. Blues can reduce glare, but they are trendier and considered more aesthetically pleasing. Yellow lenses offer the best sight in hazy conditions, filtering blue light from electronic devices which leads to fewer headaches.
